What is a chart of accounts?

1 min read

A chart of accounts provides a complete listing of every type of account, including account codes/numbers for assets, liabilities and so on.

It provides a logical structure to make it easy to record information and add or remove accounts.

Be aware that you can amend your chart of accounts to suit your business but for most companies, the standard one supplied in your accounting software will fit well.
