How we collect information from you
3.1 The law on cookies and similar technologies changed in May 2011 and we have looked at what this means for how we operate our website. We have updated this policy in line with current guidance. It may be reviewed from time to time in accordance with developments in this area, so continue to check back for updates.
3.2 We may collect anonymous information through the use of various technologies including the use of ‘cookies’ and ‘web beacons’.
3.3 A cookie is a small text file which is transferred from a website and stored on your computer's hard drive. It enables a website to ‘remember’ who you are. Cookies are used and relied on heavily for everyday use of the internet. There are many different types. We won't use any cookies (other than essential ones) on this website unless you consent to that use by ticking the box on the home page. By "essential" we mean strictly necessary to provide the webpage or service you've requested. Here is a guide to help you understand what cookies we use on this website:
3.4 We use session cookies on our website and in some of our products or services to identify and track users, to store information about your preferences. These session cookies are deleted when you close your browse or leave your session. You can disable these cookies by changing the settings on your browser but this may affect your ability to use our website.
3.5 Persistent cookies are those cookies which will stay on your computer or device after you close your browser or leave your session on our website. We use persistent cookies to enable our website to "remember" who you are and to remember your preferences on our website.
Web analytics cookies and similar technologies
3.6 If you consent to cookies, we will use a web analytics service provided by Google to improve our website and service. If you consent then change your mind, you can stop being tracked by Google Analytics across all websites by going to Google's site at: http://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout or see Disabling Cookies below. Google requires us to reproduce the following text in this policy.
3.8 Some of our web pages contain electronic images known as web beacons (sometimes known as web bugs, clear gifs, or trackers) that allow us to count users who have visited these pages after clicking through from an advertisement for our products or services from a third party site. Web beacons collect only limited information which includes a cookie number, time and date of a page view, and a description of the page on which the web beacon resides. We do not carry web beacons placed by third party advertisers but we do use a third party to aggregate this data for us.
3.9 Because web beacons are the same as any other content request included in the recipe for a web page, it is not possible for you to opt out or refuse them. However, as we use web beacons in conjunction with cookies they won't be effective unless you consent to cookies. If you consent then change your mind, they can be rendered ineffective by either opting out of cookies or by changing the cookie settings in your browser. See Disabling Cookies below.
3.10 For a list of the cookies that we use on our websites (essential and non-essential), please click here . We have tried to cover all the cookies which we use but sometimes there may be a delay in updating this list. If you think a cookie is missing or notice a discrepancy, please do let us know.
3.11 Most browsers are automatically set to accept cookies but you should be able to configure your browser to restrict cookies or block all cookies if you wish although this may affect the quality of your visit to our site. Browser-specific instructions on how to restrict or block cookies may be found on the Interactive Advertising Bureau's website at www.youronlinechoices.co.uk. As at May 2012, the relevant page for adjusting Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser settings is at www.youronlinechoices.co.uk/five-top- tips
